Harmonizing Construction Products in the EU

The Construction Products Regulation (CPR) plays a key role in ensuring that construction products across the European Union are safe, reliable, and sustainable. By establishing common standards, the CPR helps create a harmonized internal market, enabling products to move freely while maintaining high performance and safety levels.

The regulation is built on three essential elements:

  • Declaration of Performance (DoP): Manufacturers must provide a clear statement about the product’s performance characteristics, ensuring transparency and comparability.

  • CE Marking: Indicates that a product meets EU standards and can be traded across the European market without additional national approvals.

  • Seven Basic Requirements for Construction Works: These include mechanical strength, fire safety, hygiene, energy efficiency, environmental protection, sustainable resource use, and accessibility.

Through these measures, the CPR supports innovation and sustainability in the construction sector, ensuring that materials and systems contribute to the EU’s wider environmental and climate goals.

The CIRC-UITS project aligns with these principles by promoting standardization and circular design practices, encouraging industries to adopt greener, more efficient, and interoperable production methods across Europe.
