Understanding Circular and Linear Economies – The Perspective of the CIRC-UITS Project

One of the main goals of the CIRC-UITS project is to promote sustainable thinking among industrial stakeholders. At the heart of this effort lies the circular economy, which fundamentally differs from the traditional linear economic model.

The linear economy follows the “take, make, dispose” pattern – extracting raw materials, producing goods, and then discarding them. This approach depletes resources and increases environmental impact in the long run.

In contrast, the circular economy focuses on extending the life cycle of materials and products. Based on the principles of “reuse – recycle – remanufacture”, this model reduces waste, creates new value from resources, and supports sustainable industrial operations.

Through the CIRC-UITS project, innovative practices are being developed to help future professionals understand and apply the principles of the circular economy in their everyday work.
