The international project “Circ-Uits” “Circular Integration of independent Reverse supply Chains for the smart reUse of IndusTrially relevant Semiconductors”, launched on January 1, 2023, aims to address the emerging semiconductor material crisis by supporting value chains in the automotive and mass electronics industries.
The project develops digital solutions for the design, manufacture and management of electronic components and end-of-life products. The project also includes testing in an appropriate industrial environment.
The aim is to develop sustainable methods, based on a circular model, to produce new high added value components and products by reusing semiconductors from different sources and supporting their remanufacturing.
The main objectives of the three-year project are:
To fully exploit the potential and benefits of circular practices through digital technologies.
Increasing resource efficiency, independence and reducing the negative environmental footprint of electronics manufacturing processes.
Improving the sharing, exchange and standardization of information and data between industry leaders in the same and/or similar value chains.
Demonstrate the benefits of the digital circular economy through 4 pilot projects:
Supporting the development of an environmentally friendly electronic control unit
Developing new generation tire sensors
Supporting the development of embedded circuits
Improving the classification and storage of obsolete printed circuit boards from various electrical and electronic equipment
